CABLE MODEM SPEED UPGRADE

The installation of the new router and the subsequent speed upgrade has been postponed because in our testing we discovered we had to replace about 150 cable modems before we could do the upgrade. If we didn’t replace the modems first the unlucky customers with the modems would lose their service.  We have been calling the users with the offending modems and replacing them but it takes time. Just as soon as I get them all switched I will install the new router and upgrade the speeds.

There are even more routers coming.  I hope to get a fourth router installed by July and an additional router installed the first part of 2005.  These routers are will help us maintain the very best speed and value in high speed Internet in the state.

CONTENT FILTER

The Orangatango Internet content filter is still our there waiting.  I just haven’t had time to deploy the technology completely.  If you would like to try the filter your may do so for free.   Set your proxy settings to:

HTTP: 66.237.84.20                Port 8101

Secure: 66.237.84.20               Port 8101

For further instructions please click on the link below and then select the link that best describes your internet browser for instructions (if you are unsure . . . launch your browser, click on its Help/About menu or watch the splash screen as it launches for name and version number):

INTERNET SPEED

Computer Internet speed is a complicated thing. There are a lot of factors that can effect how fast your Internet connection is. During most of the day (and all of the day after I get the new router installed) you should be able to get about 1.2 mbps to 1.5 mbps download speed and 300 kbps to 500 kbps upload speed. If you want to check your speeds yourself you can go to www.dslreports.com and try their speed test. If you are getting significantly slower speeds there may be several causes:

1: Your computer may have a virus (This is the most common problem we see for consistent slow speeds)

2: TCP/IP settings may be wrong. Dslreports also has a tool to check your receive window setting and you can download drtcp to change the window size.

3: Slow computer. Guess what, you can't have high speed internet on a slow speed computer.

4: ISP problems. That would be me. If you have checked everything or even if you want some help checking everything give us a call @ 798-2877 so we can help. We want this service to be the very best possible. If you would like to talk to me please don't hesitate to call me on my cell phone @ 420-5520.
